A message from our President:
What is a garden club to you? A big question with as many answers as we have members. I joined with a desire to meet new people when I returned to my hometown of Santa Rosa after 30 years. That goal was reached quickly and happily through involvement with GRO and the board. These activities let me get to know most club members and increase my personal commitment to the SRGC and its mission.
My understanding of our mission has grown along with a desire to see it flourish. This inspired me to accept the role of SRGC President. Our mission as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is to educate and inspire our members and the community with our focus on gardening and floriculture. We fulfill that mission with our educational programs, workshops, and support of scholarships, community gardens and Earth Day. We also have responsibilities to promote and participate in the restoration and protection of the environment and civic improvement. Actions that we take as an organization must be viewed through the lens of that mission.
So, look at why you joined the club and see how it fulfills your expectations and fits with our mission. New friends, so many educational opportunities both for learning and teaching as well as reaching out to our community to see it and our environment thrive. Look at all the other reasons for joining a garden club and adopt one or two of those. I have found fulfillment by doing that and I suspect you might as well. We’ll do our best as a club to provide opportunities, activities as well as a sense of purpose and camaraderie. -Kathleen Reynolds
